Home-schooling
In general, Home-schooling had been on the rise and popular to some parents who have children with special educational needs. However, during the pandemic, this was a difficult and daunting task for parents to teach their children during school lockdown. ABLE hosted 2 parental home-schooling workshops. The first was before the Pandemic and the second workshop was during the pandemic in June 2020. The latter was to bring parents, teachers, grandparents together to discuss home-schooling challenges that they encountered.
During our discussion, we arrive at the conclusion that parents took their home-schooling responsibility very serious because they recognised the fact that it will affect their children’s education in the future. It was noted that most parents reported that they felt overwhelmed in creating a learning plan to structure a productive day. Some parents genuinely reported that they found the task too challenging because they felt that they do not have the skills and resources they need to function well.
With our team of committed volunteers and tutors, ABLE was able to make a difference and we were able to provide online tutor lessons to an increased amount of children and young people and we say a big thank you to the Lottery Community Fund.
